Balance Rock in the distance

About a mile west of US 7, on a country road that follows the north shore of Pontoosuc Lake, is Balance Rock park, where the amazing Balance Rock occupies a prominent position among other curious boulders deposited by the glaciers of prehistoric times.

-Quote from "Exploring the Berkshires by Herbert S. Whitman, 1988

...a real curiosity, a 165 ton boulder the last glacier dropped. It landed on a tiny pedestal. It is said to be so precariously balanced that a mighty shove would tip it over. Don't be around when somebody tries it. It is covered with graffiti, of course.

-Quote from "Massachusetts - A Guide to its Places and People - Federal Writers' Project, 1937

Right on this road past the north shore of Pontoosuc Lake is Balance Rock. This triangular mass of limestone, weathered gray, and weighing 165 tons, is thought to have been carried here from some point east of the Hudson River by glacial action, and is so poised, three feet above the ground on another rock, that it vibrates when touched, although it cannot be dislodged.
