-Quote from "America B.C." by Barry Fell

Massive lintel stones cap the ruins of a temple at Danbury, Connecticut, shown by John Williams to be oriented to the midwinter sunrise. Engraved inscriptions in the vicinity relate this structure, and others nearby, to the sun god Bel. The inscriptions include Ogam and Punic Iberian, and also the Mediterranean equinox symbol of the circle divided by a diameter, symbolizing equal day and night. The Danbury complex is provisionally dated to ca. 800-600 B.C., coeval with the Vermont and New Hampshire megalithic monuments.

I visited the chambers again, (December, 1997) and took new photos, which are above. After walking around, and finding barn foundations near both, and evidence of land clearing / farming in the area, I now believe both "chambers" are farm storage. Cold storage or root cellers for vegetables? Well houses? Milk storage? A place to keep grain away from other animals? I just question why they went through the trouble of placing such large lintel stones. I took solar alignment readings, came out with a possible Equinox alignment, but nothing else significant. I believe they were oriented toward the down sloping terrain for ease of entry. The topography determined the direction of the chambers.

I would really like to know more about these chambers. If you have any other information, of other sites in the area, (I've heard there are earthworks nearby, some of which can only be seen from an airplane), I would very much like to hear from you. Thank you!
